OCBC Loan Origination System

OCBC Loan Origination System

A revamp of a legacy loan origination system.

A revamp of a legacy loan origination system.

Project Summary

This project is a major revamp of a legacy loan origination system. The system is used by the bank’s Relationship Managers to document and track the process of disbursing loans to large corporations. As the existing loan origination process is disparate and spread over multiple online and offline touchpoints, this new platform aims to consolidate the entire process into a single digital system for simpler workflow tracking and management.

My Role

The project runs on an agile framework, comprising a total of 7 squads, each with their own focus areas and objectives. I work within 2 squads as a UX Designer, collaborating with cross-functional members of the scrum team. I also work with the Chief Product Owner (CPO), Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and stakeholders from other business units that will also utilise this platform.

I take business requirements, conduct preliminary research about the user goals, and work with the team to translate these pieces of information into designs for implementation. Thus far, I have designed for 4 modules/features of the system.

I also maintain and improve the product’s design system to ensure design consistency and cater to the product’s evolving needs.

The Process

The department is currently working towards a base build release — with the aim of developing the necessary modules to contain most of the loan origination process within the platform. Although each squad and its associated Product Owners are varied in their preferences on workflow, the design process can be briefly summarised into these steps:

  • Understanding & Research

  • Defining the user journey and user flows

  • Wireframing

  • Design

  • Handoff for development

As the department and the product is a newly refreshed initiative, requirements are often fluid, which means that the process above is highly iterative and often non-linear.
